About
MIT:

Mr.C.Rajam funded Rs. 5 lakhs through
the sale of his house and founded the MIT, with the blessings of the Sage of
Kanchi, the Jagadguru Sankaracharya Swamigal. He was ably assisted by Subbaraya
Aiyar, M.K. Ranganathan, L.Venkatakrishna Iyer, K.Srinivasan and C.R.
Srinivasan and was provided with a pool of generous donations from the public
and industries. Thus in July 1949, the MIT was established as an All India
Technological Institution with the sole aim of providing engineering education of University standard in
specialised fields free from regional limitations both in regard to its staff
and students.
When all engineering institutions at that time offered UG courses only in Civil, Mechanical and Electrical Engineering Mr. Rajam took a bold initiative by introducing totally new areas of specialisation in Engineering such as Aeronautical Engineering, Automobile Engineering, Electronics Engineering and Instrumentation Technology for the very first time in our country. Hence this was considered as a pioneering step in engineering education in India.

A significant lot of MIT alumnus are now
holding key positions in research and development organisations, manufacturing
industries and
educational institutions in both abroad as well as in top institutions of
our nation and this was possible only because of the broad-based curriculum at
the MIT that adequately equipped engineers to handle a wide range of problems. The success of this organisation can be attributed to
the unstinted efforts and dynamic leadership of its Founders, Chairmen and
Members of the Governing Council, Directors, Staff and Alumni and also, in no
small measure, to the quality and character of its students during the last 50
years.
Departments of MIT:
MIT can be said as a pioneer in terms of
introducing new departments among the Indian student fraternity. Currently the
college has nine functional departments with proposals for several other new
departments in pipeline to be introduced in the near future. The various
departments of MIT are:
- Aerospace Engineering
- Automobile Engineering
- Electronics Engineering
- Instrumentation
Engineering
- Production Technology
- Computer Technology
- Humanities
- Information Technology
- Rubber and Plastics
Technology
Courses
offered by MIT:
The college offers variety of courses ranging from
Mechanical to Aerospace covering almost all fields of technology. Another
important advantage is that most of the courses offered by this college has
part time option also that aids the working professionals too. The various
courses taught here are as follows:
- Bachelor of Engineering in Aeronautical Engineering (Part time)
- Bachelor of Engineering in Aeronautical Engineering (Full time)
- Bachelor of Technology in Aerospace Engineering
- Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering
- Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering
- Bachelor of Technology in Rubber and Plastics Technology
- Bachelor of Technology in Automobile Engineering
- Bachelor of Technology in Instrumentation Engineering
- Bachelor of Technology in Electronics and Communication Engineering
- Bachelor of Technology in Information Technology
- Bachelor of Technology in Production Technology
- Bachelor of Technology in Rubber & Plastic Technology
Our verdict is that MIT can be
chosen if you choose to pursue your engineering career with real time practical
experience and at an affordable cost. Placement is one of the best in class in
this institution since it houses the best of the best talents available not
only in our state but from the whole of our country.
